ABOUT

"Radiate"

In the world of figurative expression, Joya captures the female form with complex palettes and powerful gestures that drive feelings of motion and emotion within her paintings. Joya has honed her works to reflect her lifelong love of dance, and this can be seen in the way she flows paint across the canvas to create loose, abstract female forms.

Artists are trained to constantly refine and filter their works, often unaware of their predispositions to do so. Joya deliberately chooses to stop where most artists would continue forth, breaking the status quo and raising new questions about when a painting is considered a finished art work. Joya wants the viewer to truly ponder this question, in an attempt to break down beliefs and misconceptions regarding fine art.

Colors often associated with certain emotions are utilized by Joya to add deeper subtext, without necessarily adding more paint. Every brush stroke is premeditated, in an attempt at abstract minimalism within her figurative works.  There is a sneaking sense of loneliness in Joya’s paintings, a twisting kind of stillness that both dances and stays.

To let her works stand on their own, Joya has chosen a path of artistry that hides her true identity. Often an artist’s personality is juxtaposed with their work; however Joya’s  anonymity attempts to directly break this correlation. Only in this way are her works allowed to speak for themselves. To better know Joya, simply delve into her wonderful portfolio of paintings.
